Surgery in Dominican Republic
Surgery, is it everywhere you look? or has the rumor mill taken its own course?
There's a great deal of people on the outside who believe that the majority of Dominican women have had surgery. Also, because of the lower cost there is also a great deal of women that travel to Dominican Republic for surgery. Believe it or not but men too also travel to the island for surgery, but it's usually never mentioned. What's also not mentioned much is dental surgery, for those who do not have a good dental plan find their way to a growing industry of dentistry in Dominican Republic. The common denominator is the prices for the procedures, that's why men and women are willing to travel to save on the cost.
Let’s get right to it. Dominican Republic has gotten a name over the years as a country for surgeries. You'd think busty women with surgeries would be all in your face everywhere you turn, but it's actually not. Maybe it's more popular in specific areas or establishments where it fits the profession. In my previous location more south of the island, I recall only seeing 2 ladies with a clear “BBL” surgeries. Brazilian butt lift aka BBL is the most popular procedures and that are the most recognizable. It was an early afternoon of a holiday weekend, and the town was doing an event. I was going by the liquor store to buy a few bottles of wine for the host of where I had plan on going to later that night. The area was being decorated, setting up for an outdoor party in the park. There was music playing and people already hanging out, there were clean-up crews, and also there were sponsors setting up booths and the grand stage. As I walked in the liquor store, I was greeted by these 2 young ladies in matching T-shirts with the name of the promoted brand on it. They asked me if I would like to try the sponsored drink (free of charge). I visibly noticed something that I haven't seen in my first year of living here, these ladies had a BBL.
Then there are the more touristic areas, the nightlife to be more specific. In these atmospheres it's far more common to see those who've had work done. Let's also keep in mind, not everyone in these locations is necessarily from DR either. There is always women from other parts of the world that are in DR on vacation, and they could of flew in for a procedure or not. In Dominican Republic, plastic surgery is not shunned or a topic of conversation. I’ve never heard anyone bad mouth anyone for making that decision. I’m told that surgeries were more looked down upon in the past. In the past, questions and comments would circle of “why would you do it” or “you have to be careful with those things.” Those are legitimate questions today, because a lot of those so-called doctors that are doing the surgeries are not even licensed to be doing it anyway, nor do they have the credentials. Just because the prices are cheaper is why it attracts clients, but not all low prices are worth your life. I remember years ago I caught a glance of a headline on the news that a young lady from Toronto, Canada died while getting BBL surgery in Dominican Republic. Sadly, but those stories kept popping up all over with the same outcome. Later I saw a special where an investigative journalist went undercover to check out the whole scene. What he showed was unlicensed and unqualified doctors were doing a lot of these illegal surgeries in unsanitary rooms. You can only imagine with the language barrier the amount of people unaware, and being left most vulnerable.
Maybe it's just me, but I noticed that there's a lot of dentists in Dominican Republic. Maybe it's the circles I’ve been around, but I’m willing to make a wager that dentistry is one of the leading career choices in Dominican Republic. From casual conversations I’ve always heard about many foreigners coming to Dominican Republic for all types of dental work. From as little as a cleaning to cavities, to more complex as tooth extractions to oral surgery. The dental prices are significantly lower than for example what it would cost in the States. Prices do vary as not all the Dominican dental offices charge the same prices, but the quality of work is of good quality. Not surrounded with horror stories or disgruntle clients, those who come to the DR for dental surgery tend to be in good hands with well qualified professionals that do an excellent job. It's no wonder why Dominican Republic is a top choice for dental work.
Whether if you're all for surgery or against it, it is a part of our world that isn't going to go away. Plastic surgery tourism is a real thing, and will continue to bring in millions of dollars to any economy that's providing the service. Choosing to get procedures done by cheaper nonprofessionals is rolling the dice with your life, as many have made news headlines for that. In Dominican Republic there are real surgeons that understand and know what they are doing. The clients should expect to pay the correct price and do their due diligence. On average procedures in Dominican Republic will cost between $4000 to $10000, this of course would be from a licensed professional. So, the truth of the matter is the majority of women in Dominican Republic do not have surgery, as well as the majority of people visiting the island are not coming for surgery either.
This is interesting. I know Colombia and Brazil are well known for surgeries and medical practices... here in the US it's insane what we're charged for any sort of procedure, especially dental work. I'm curious about something. What about skincare products? Do you know anyone (dermatologist) who you can speak with to talk about prices? As an example, I use Skinceuticals and the cost is outrageous. I wonder if it's less expensive, or even offered in other countries. I'm going to look into medical vacations, I'd like to get tests done, that would cost out-of-pocket a fortune to be done here.
